NATIONAL GUARD CALLED TO HELP WITH CALIFORNIA FIRES

The wildfire situation in California has become so serious that the state’s National Guard has been called in – something that hasn’t happened in 30 years. About 200 National Guard members will be assisting exhausted firefighters battling the blazes on the ground. National Guard troops are already assisting in the air, but CalFire Chief Candace Gregory says the new Guardsmen on the ground must still be trained in mop up techniques to put out flare-ups. The California National Guard also provides airport and border security and deals with earthquakes and floods.
