END IN SIGHT FOR THIS ROUND OF N. CALIF. WILDFIRES

Officials are reporting more progress in getting control of 33 wildfires still burning in Northern California. A spokesman for the National Park Service says a wildfire outside the rural Trinity County community of Junction City is now 60 percent contained. The blaze is still causing concerns though, with the edge of the fire still burning less than a mile away from the town of about 800. Far to the south, fire officials say a fire burning in the Big Sur region is now 72 percent contained. Wildfires burning since June 21 have scorched more than 1,500 square miles across the state and destroyed 122 homes.
