A judge has reduced the bail for 45-year-old Carol Avina – the wife of a reputed gang member suspected of fatally shooting a man at a party in Thousand Palms earlier this month. Avina’s husband, 31- year-old Daniel Karlson, pleaded not guilty to murder and other charges yesterday. He’s charged with one count of murder as well weapons charges and criminal street gang activity. A judge set an Aug. 4 felony settlement conference for Karlson, who was extradited from Texas. Avina, a 27-year Indio court clerk employed in the family law division, pleaded not guilty on Friday to a charge of being an accessory to a murder allegedly committed by her husband, who prosecutors maintain is a member of the Barrio Cathedral City gang. Her bail was reduced from $1 million to $250,000.
