Sunday

I made a point of not reading the papers this weekend. For a variety of reasons. I needed a break from all the questions, I wanted to escape from the second-guessing and mind numbing facts about how something could happen..that did happen. The reason is I don't have anyof the answers and neither does anybody else. I don't know if President Elect Obama will lead from the far left or from the middle. I certainly don't know what happened to Prop. 8. I don't know how the economy will correct itself. All I do know is that in not being informed for 2 days has been relaxing, motivating and enlightening. Jimi The Dog has been at my side constantly. I have not thought about golf or doing anything. I have done nothing but read things I was interested in, talk to people I wanted to talk to and have had no schedule to attend to. I never knew it could be so good. I suggest that some of you do the same. There is nothing that important that it should steal time from you. There are very few that require phone calls or visits. They will survive for a day or two and so will you. To spend time doing what you want to do..when you want to do it..is real freedom. And lets face it...we don't control..or can't control very much anyway. All the routine starts again tomorrow...but for today..the only thing that requires my attention is Jimi The Dog and me... Remember..Fear knocked at the door..Faith answered...no one was there... Gary

Sunday And A Project Dear To Your Heart.
Gary, Sundays are wonderful "no news is good news" days. We all need them! As a mom of five, grandmother of 9, I need more of those days. But wanted you to know, on Saturday night, our foundation awarded over $5,200 to fund six class innovative teaching projects. One I know is dear to your heart, the autistic children. Their application for our grant told us that the children had gone from writing one sentence with 4 words to 4 sentences with 5 words, after they had taken pictures and printed them and were asked to describe their photo. The teachers asked for $195 for toner and picture quality paper for the kindergarten through 2nd grade students they teach. We wondered why they had not asked for cameras, as this was such an imporant element to their program. We called and they said they would love to have cameras, but didn't want to jeopardize the chance to get the money for the supplies. We ended up awarding them $1,100 last night. They brought the most amazing photographs to our Gala. The children who took these photos have such incredible talent. We need more of these incredible teachers and money to award them for these projects. Life is good, Carol
